Music Vision and Principals

The Pinkwell WHY for Music (The Intent - Vision)
At Pinkwell we inspire pupils to develop a love of music, motivate them to actively participate in music and equip them with necessary musical knowledge, skills and understanding and an appreciation of its diversity.

The Pinkwell WHAT for Music (The Intent - BIG IDEAS)
To perform, listen to, review and evaluate a diverse range of music spanning different periods, cultures and genres, including some of the works of great composers and musicians.
To learn to sing and to use their voices both individually and with others.
To create and compose music on their own and with others, using their voice and instruments.
To understand how music both reflects and impacts the world.
To understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated including through the use of inter-related musical dimensions.
To have first hand rich music experiences, attending live music events and working with professionals.

The Pinkwell HOW for Music (The Implementation)
At Pinkwell we provide an education that inspires our pupils, motivates our pupils and empowers them to succeed. Our Music Education is taught through our Project Based Learning approach (PBL). Music is a unique way of communicating that can inspire and motivate children. It is a vehicle for personal expression, and it can play an important part in the personal development of people. Music reflects the culture and society we live in, and so the teaching and learning of music enables children to better understand the world they live in. Besides being a creative and enjoyable activity, music can also be a highly academic and demanding subject. It also plays an important part in helping children feel part of a community.

The Pinkwell SO WHAT for Music (The Impact)
At Pinkwell Primary school we use the knowledge and skills progression map to teach music as the basis for our curriculum planning. The children are becoming more familiar with different forms of music.

Have a look at the pictures below to see how Year 2 have linked music to their PBL theme.

We used our musical instruments and formed a BAND. We sang the Class’ CELEBRATION rhyme together.
