Computing Vision and Principals

The Pinkwell WHY for Computing and ICT
At Pinkwell we prepare pupils to thrive in the technologically rich, globally connected world by providing them with a high level of computer literacy.  By combining the discrete teaching of skills and knowledge, with cross curricular application in class, our children achieve a deep and balanced understanding of the subject and its real world use.

The Pinkwell WHAT for Computing and ICT
To be digitally literate, digital citizens, who are confident, competent, creative, purposeful, effective, safe and responsible users of digital technology.
To understand the role and application of digital technology in connecting the world.
To understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science and programming.

The Pinkwell HOW for Computing and ICT
Through weekly lessons with a specialist teacher, our children have the opportunity to explore different areas within the subject and beyond.  We have developed a broad and balanced curriculum for teaching computing - using the new National curriculum as a guideline to ensure this balance.
IT and Digital Literacy is embedded throughout the curriculum as a whole, and Online Safety takes a prominent role to ensure an ongoing, relevant and thorough understanding of safe internet use.
Additionally, the subject develops the children's Computer Science knowledge and understanding, enabling them to develop their computational thinking and problem solving skills through coding programs and specialist software.
From Year 2 all children get individual Google accounts that enable them to learn "anytime - anywhere".  They have access to a bespoke computing website that encompasses the computing curriculum for the whole school as well as Google Classroom: an environment where they can learn and share together.  Lessons, many with video demonstrations, are available anytime through this website as well as on a weekly basis via Google Classroom.
As with all subjects, we need to apply our knowledge and skills in all areas of the curriculum.  From Art to Science we embrace and use technology to further our understanding and enjoyment in these topics within the PBL curriculum.

The Pinkwell SO WHAT for Computing and ICT
From the earliest of ages, children have a fascination with technology and devices. By fostering this interest, the computing curriculum engages pupils to use their imagination to broaden their views on the world.  Pinkwell children can safely search the internet for information to transpose into presentations for their peers, design complex pieces of artwork, to control in games and collaborate with their friends to write fantastical stories. The recent surge of cloud computing at home has shown the resilience and adaptability our children have and can be seen by their interactions in Google Classroom.
